This content has been developed specifically for qualified Occupational Therapists who wish to undertake Home Modifications. An effective and professional Home Modifications Assessor is an Occupational Therapist with the skills to undertake both minor as well as detailed and complex home modifications assessments. \nHome modifications can be undertaken privately and be self-funded\, but some people may also be eligible\, in some circumstances\, for government funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). These can include custom-built changes to a persons home to improve access and use of their home. \nHome modifications can be minor changes that don’t change the structural elements of the home or complex home modifications which usually need building approvals or and certification of work works. They may involve technical works or impact various areas of a person’s home’. The course incorporates specific learning material to address both minor and complex home modifications. \nThis course will provide students with the skills and knowledge required to provide advice on home modifications to achieve optimum access to existing buildings for people with disability. This advice is required in situations where regulatory compliance can be achieved as well as where compliance cannot be achieved due to pre-existing conditions. \nThis course covers legislation related to home modifications for access for different types of dwellings as well as relevant Standards and guidelines that must be considered in home modification. DESCRIPTION:This one day course provides participants with an understanding of the wide range of access requirements related to Transport Infrastructure and Conveyances that must be considered in planning\, design\, development\, maintenance and upgrade of these spaces and facilities. \nUtilising a variety of learning techniques\, the course focuses on the wide range of challenges that are experienced by people with various access issues in utilising Transport Infrastructure and Conveyances. This includes mobility\, vision\, hearing\, intellectual and cognitive issues. \nThe course importantly provides a practical framework for understanding relevant legislative requirements including the Disability Discrimination Act 1992\, the Disability Standards for Accessible Public Transport 2002\, the Disability (Access to Premises – Buildings) Standards 2010 and the Australian Standards for Access and Mobility\, as well as non mandatory ‘best practice’ guidelines. \nThe course identifies the key access elements to consider in Transport Infrastructure and Conveyances with an emphasis on access solutions. DESCRIPTION:The lack of accessible adult change facilities creates major issues for people who need specialised equipment to go to the toilet when they are away from home. Carers often resort to using the floor of an accessible toilet\, as the space for changing and toileting those they support\, which is both inequitable and abhorrent. \nThis course is for professionals who wish to understand and apply the Changing Places Design Specifications 2020 and those who wish to become registered as a Changing Places Assessor\, who can undertake assessments of Changing Places (Accessible Adult Change Facilities – AACF)\, to confirm that designs or As – built structures\, comply with Changing Places Design Specifications and the requirements of the National Construction Code (NCC) for Accessible Adult Change facilities. (AACF). \nThe course provides relevant information regarding design\, development and assessment of these facilities.
